Jesus in a musical?!
This film is based on the original play by Tim Rice, and it does an okay job for what it is. Since it's a musical, there is little dialogue and mostly, well, music, but this movie does a good job at portraying several aspects of Jesus. We see his life, his feelings towards people, his betrayal, and his death. This tells the story of basically the last seven days of Jesus' life, and does so dramatically. It focuses a lot on the unrest caused by Jesus' preachings, and brings many modern aspects of life to the story. For example, the guards sent to arrest Jesus are cast as Nazi Storm Troopers, as both were means of oppressing, and suppressing, opposition to the "right" way of thinking at that time. If you like musicals, this is a good one, and it does do a pretty good job of trying to relate the teachings of Jesus to a more modern era.
